The 2009 Digital Mixer, Dayton’s premier event for businesses to network with information technology students, will be Tuesday, February 17th, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the WSU Student Union Apollo Room. “This is a networking event designed to bring IT college students, faculty and IT employers together,” explained Barbara Denison, coordinator of the event and an assistant professor in information systems and operations management with Wright State’s Raj Soin College of Business.  “This informal and interactive event is planned to allow college students from WSU and other area colleges and universities to investigate internships, ask about IT jobs and explore career options with IT companies in the greater Dayton area.”  Matt Massie, Career Services, Sinclair Community College, said “The Digital Mixer will provide employers with the chance to talk with students about internships, mentoring and career opportunities while sharing information on industry trends and expectations.  Our vision is to position the Dayton area as an IT leader and attract talent and organizations to this region.”

The Digital Mixer concept originated in 2000.  Ann Gallaher, Technology First, Chief Operating Officer, said “Dayton must attract, educate, and retain the next generation of knowledge workers to ensure the economic success of the region.  Working with local colleges, universities, and businesses, the Digital Mixer provides an opportunity to connect established professionals to students who are preparing for internships and future jobs.  Working in collaboration with the local colleges we hope to provide the linkage that will grow the region’s workforce.”

Last year’s Digital Mixer attracted 175 IT professionals and students from Wright State, University of Dayton, Central State, Wilberforce, Cedarville University, Sinclair Community College, Clark State and other colleges.   Mayor Rhine McLin welcomed guests on behalf of the City of Dayton.  Students commented “I enjoyed the open atmosphere to communicate with IT professionals in the Dayton business world.”  

The event is free to all participants, thanks to sponsorship from the Raj Soin College of Business, WSU Career Services, Technology First, Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce and Sinclair Community College.  Businesses are encouraged to send at least two representatives to allow networking with students.  A limited number of display tables are available.  Pre-registration is requested through the Web site http://career.wright.edu/events/digitalmixer/.   This year, registered businesses will be provided with a CD of student resumes.   For more information, contact WSU Career Services at (937) 775-2556.
