Project Natal

Imagine playing video games with NO controller! Everyone should get excited hearing about Project Natal, a controller-free gaming and entertainment add-on system for the Xbox 360 console. Project Natal uses 3D motion capture, facial recognition, and voice recognition to enable users to control and interact with the game through body gestures and voice commands. So, your body is the controller! Even for someone like me who hardly plays any video games, Project Natal is tempting enough to sit on my Christmas list. Wait, not this Christmas yet. Rumor has it that we will be lucky to see it late 2010.

Are we looking at the future of the gaming technologies?

Shu, We have certainly come a long way since the days of Atari. This is just amazing. There are so many applications for this technology, but for entertainment and commerce. For example, imagine how this might change something like physical therapy or in home care for the elderly.

This is the type of technology that will also be seen in the commercial "virtual world" which is a growing area for modeling and has the potential to save millions of dollars and speed the time to market for new products, etc. Stay classy Dayton...
