IT Buyers Share How They Use Tech Source

March 2007

by Claire Kerr, Director, Greater Dayton IT Alliance

If you ask people in Dayton that purchase IT products, services and solutions for their businesses how they find IT suppliers, the majority will say that they:

  • Use Google searches
  • Talk to peers at other companies to see who they use
  • Talk with the vendors that they have used in the past

These IT buyers will also be quick to point out these search methods can be time-consuming and incomplete in many cases. First-time and repeat users of Tech Source comment that Tech Source is an easy, quick channel to add to their search process and provides several benefits including the ability to:

  1. Search when they have a requirement best met by a local IT supplier:
    • onsite support capability
    • local customer references
    • IT consulting services with local staff
  2. View IT suppliers in the Dayton region that they did not know about previously.
  3. Find a local company to meet a specific vendor requirement such as a minority-owned business or distribution capability for a certain hardware or software brand.
  4. Learn about additional capabilities of IT suppliers that they currently use.
  5. Access to a broader distribution list for RFPs and RFIs.
