2004-2007 Strategic Plan Results

November 2007

Leadership Perspective

The major themes for the Greater Dayton IT Alliance 2004-07 Strategic Plan focused

  • on outreach to vertical market industries to raise the IT IQ of the region
  • increase technology adoption
  • provide business development opportunities for technology providers.

Over the course of the three years, 156 new members were added shifting the membership mix for technology provider to technology user from 60/40 to 50/50.   New educational programs and special interest groups provided the manufacturing, legal, health care, and small business sector opportunities to network and learn.

The overall goal for the plan was to drive incremental economic activity within the region by creating new job opportunities, investments, and cost savings.  The economic return to the membership and the community was valued at $2,758,100 with a contribution by Ohio’s IT Alliance of $179,654 over 3 years.  This equates to a $15 return for each dollar invested by the State of Ohio.  Services provided to members and the community generated $1,725,682 in revenue providing industry match of $10 for each dollar of state funds invested.  These figures do not include productivity costs saved by the services provided to companies interested in locating technology or training resources.

Over the last several months a committee of volunteers has been working with the Dayton Development Coalition’s 15 Strategic Plan for information technology and started to craft the direction and themes for the 2008-11 Strategic Plan.  We will continue to build on the programs and success of the past three years and hope that you continue to stay involved as we roll-out the roadmap for the future of the greater Dayton region!

Grow IT Based Wealth

  • The Tech Source program, a business to business referral service, was created to bring technology buyers and providers together spurring technology adoption and business opportunities.
  • Active volunteers helped craft the business plan, industry-specific taxonomy, and the web application for the Tech Source program.  The program was staffed and launched in 2005 when the Ohio Department of Development granted funds through Ohio’s IT Alliance.
  • The marketing and branding campaign resulted in technology providers’ company electronic brochures and websites being viewed over 12,000 times through the Tech Source portal.  Sixty-six potential business connections were assisted through this program with system support, database maintenance, and application assistance being the most frequently requested.  Twenty closed business deals were tracked with a value of $1,612,000.
  • Provide Technical Leadership
  • A team of volunteers working with the Miami Valley Communications Council investigated the potential for a Regional Network and the future role for D-MIX.
  • Twenty-five CIO Council meetings were coordinated including joint meetings with the Columbus and Cincinnati groups.  IT leaders from technology companies, vertical market industries, academia, and Wright Patterson Air Force Base met to discuss best practices and emerging technologies.

Develop Regional IT Competency

  • Digital Mixers were co-hosted with the i-Zone, the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, Wright State University and other colleges and universities.
  • Ten college scholarships were awarded in conjunction with the McKenna Group for a value of $11,500.
  • Nearly 120 companies posted 412 jobs to the website’s Employment Exchange (valued at $123,600).
  • Forty-four networking and educational events were hosted presenting 201 educational sessions, with over 2,200 professionals attending, while maintaining a satisfaction rating of 4.5 out of a possible 5.
  • Three Ohio Information Security Conferences were organized in partnership with the ISSA, Infragard, the Ohio Contingency Planners of Ohio, and the Ohio Information Security Forum.
  • Eighty-one Training Exchange classes were provided to 958 professionals with a satisfaction rating of 88%.  Companies saved 23% off cost of retail training and 54% off when travel would have been required.  The total training cost savings to the community is valued at $1,011,000

Advocate the Regional IT Agenda

  • Through the efforts of the membership committee, 240 technology providers, vertical market companies, academic institutions, and government agencies participate as members.
  • Technology First, Dayton published 36 print editions with 540 articles on information technology and business topics.  Over 150,000 print copies were distributed to professionals in the community.
  • Technology First, Dayton published over 150 electronic editions with over 450,000 messages distributed to professionals.
  • Unique monthly website visitors quadrupled over the past three years with 22,810 unique monthly visitors in 2007.
  • A strategic partnership with the Dayton Development Coalition included co-location and crafting the 15 year strategic plan for information technology.
