NCR Move

September 2009

The news is not new. The result is the same. NCR Headquarters is moving to Atlanta over the next year.

Senior leadership made the decision to re-locate the company – for many reasons to include huge tax incentives – and as a result hundreds of employees will either lose their jobs or be asked to uproot their families to move south. Now is the time for action to retain this quality staff in the Dayton region.

A group of community leaders to include Technology First were organized by Sinclair Community College and the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce to launch the Choose Dayton campaign. Supported by TDH Marketing, a new website has been developed for employers to post information about their companies. Over the next year as NCR employees are given end dates and begin to look for other options this repository can connect them with potential employers.

Right Management, the outplacement firm contracted by NCR, offers Right Express. Employers with current openings can post them to this website which is a working tool for all downsized NCR employees. Bill Van Curen, CIO for NCR, Technology First Board of Trustees, and member of the Dayton Area CIO Council, has been involved and proactive. He has spoken many times to the CIO Council and other employers about the quality of NCR’s IT staff. Like Don Hopkins and Sam Coursen before him, Bill has been a strong supporter of our organization and we will miss their leadership and commitment to this community.

Though the name NCR is not very popular in the Dayton region right now – the critical focus is on the people. Please visit www.choosedayton.com or www.rightexpress.com and help keep the talent in Dayton.
