January 2010
Technology First held its CIO Forecast Luncheon Forum on December 9th at Sinclair Community College’s Ponitz Center. The CIO Forecast Luncheon is an informative event where a panel of Dayton Area CIOs discuss issues, trends, and challenges in the technology industry. This year's panelists were Rob Whittington of WorkflowOne, Jim Bradley of Motoman, John Huelsman of Midmark and Jon Russell of Kettering Health Network.
Moderator Jack Santos, an Executive Strategist from the Burton group, questioned the panel regarding priorities, new technology, employment, and advice to other CIOs.
Jack also asked what the top IT priorities are for 2010 and the common answer was growth, integration, innovation, restructuring, and productivity. All are important for both IT and business driving forces.
The panel also addressed the top Technology strategies for 2010. The answers were to closely follow technology rather than be the leading edge, not to fall behind in technology but keep up to date, and consolidate and rationalize current technology.
When queried about their perspective on hiring for 2010, the panel responded they were being conservative and selective and did not foresee significant hiring, but were cautiously optimistic.
Finally, the panelists were asked what unsolicited advice they would give other CIOs today. The general consensus was teamwork, learning the company business, be an effective business partner, be clear about the roles between IT and Management teams, and use project management and business analysis.
The CIO Luncheon Event had another great turnout with interesting audience participation.
