Stopping Brain Drain - Building Your Workforce with SOCHE and Colleagues

  • 06/09/2021
  • 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM
  • virtual

Event Overview

The Southwestern Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) and their colleagues from several local Universities will talk about how they work with businesses around the region to assist in building their next generation of workforce. There are multiple options for work-based learning to include co-ops, apprenticeships and internships and all of them are used across the region. These opportunities lead to at least 67% of students receiving full-time position offers and at least 52% retention rates after five years in the company. All of these work-based learning opportunities lead to ultimately prepared new employees for a company. This collider will start with Dr. Cassie Barlow from SOCHE talking about the power of work-based learning and then a panel from WSU, UC, Clark State and Cincinnati State will offer their insight on student work-based learning opportunities.

Panel (Moderated by Dr. Cassie Barlow):

  • Wayne Stark, Wright State University, Center for Liberal Arts Student Success/Career Services
  • Rich Roble, University of Cincinnati, Manufacturing and Construction Co-op Programs for Experience-Based Learning & Career Education
  • Doreen E. Grontkowski, University of Cincinnati, Aerospace Engineering Faculty Co-op Advisor
  • Danielle Williams, Clark State College, Career Services Specialist
  • Jayne Dressing, Cincinnati State, Co-op Coordinator
  • Q&A – Dr Barlow will ask questions as will the audience
